His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Sbonginkosi Biyela together with Deputy Mayor Phumlani Ntombela, Speaker NA Mbatha and Technical Services Director Mrs TF Mchunu officially handed over Mehlamasha Community Halls at Zigagayi area in ward 6, on Thursday 12 December 2019.
Addressing the community Mayor Biyela said a Municipal delegation was already at the site earlier in March 2019 for a sod turning for the Mehlamasha Community hall, which was a sign that symbolised the start of the building that the community is now witnessing its completion today. “We are still on track with our aim of changing the lives of Mthonjaneni citizens as promised. This community hall will be a safe space for community gatherings such as weddings, sermons and other events. I would also like to urge all Zigagayi and Mehlamasha community members to report all acts of criminality such as vandalism to the police,” said the Mayor.
Mayor Biyela also thanked the ward 6 community for working well with the Construction Company that was building the hall. “We have not heard of any mismanagement complaint from the community, as all local employees were always paid efficiently on time, we have also not heard any complaint from the contractors of any stolen equipment,” said Mayor Biyela.
Mthonjaneni Municipality is committed to infrastructural development that will make available safe spaces for community members to gather when needed.
